G-250 Eagle

Italian Rotor Industries participates in a European research project in partnership with the Czech company PBS — lead partner of the consortium and a leader in aeronautical microturbines—with the goal of developing a turbine specifically designed for helicopter applications. The main technical challenge is power transmission: instead of relying on traditional belts, the IRI engineers design a fully gear-based gearbox, unprecedented in the ultralight segment, superior in reliability, efficiency, and durability. A unique solution in the world.

Building on the achievements, Engineer Grillo takes the next step: around the PBS turbine and the proprietary gearbox, he designs and builds the world’s first two-seat ultralight helicopter powered by an aeronautical turbine. The prototype—entirely designed and manufactured by Italian Rotor Industries—is subjected to a rigorous program of tests in a wind tunnel and—with the support of the Faculty of Engineering at Roma Tre University for the verification of FEM calculations—experimental flight sessions, which validate its performance and structural reliability.

At the end of the development cycle, the decision is made to establish a new company, a spin-off of IRI, which inherits its workforce, expertise, and intellectual property. Thus, Avio Solution SRL is born, with a facility in Aprilia (LT) and a team of ten engineers and technicians, tasked with producing and commercializing the helicopter named G-250 Eagle.

The supply chain is entirely European—with the only exception of Garmin avionics—and operates based on designs and specifications of proprietary Avio Solution technology. The final assembly takes place entirely in the facilities in Aprilia.

The interiors are entrusted to Azienda Couture in Civitavecchia, a company specialized in high-end leather craftsmanship.

The G-250 Eagle is currently undergoing certification with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the decisive step for access to European and international markets with an aircraft certified to the highest civil aviation standards.

At the culmination of a path of industrial and strategic growth, Avio Solution becomes a joint-stock company. The Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo joins the company’s taking on the role of Executive Chairman, alongside Engineer Carmelo Grillo, appointed Chief Executive Officer. A renewed governance structure designed to project the G-250 Eagle—and the Italian dream of flight—onto international markets.
